This huge Barn was beginning to fall down and was becoming increasingly dangerous. Situated beside a beautifully renovated Bed and Breakfast house in a rural hamlet, the plan was to change part of the barn into a self-contained one-bedroom gîte, specially fitted out with enough space and a large wet room for people using wheelchairs.
The rest of the barn walls were reduced in height to provide a large partly covered courtyard, which has space for a swimming pool and gives way to tranquil views over the rolling countryside behind.
A specialist drainage study was required for this project to confirm that the existing fosse toutes eaux had the capacity to cope with the proposed extra load. This document was submitted with the Permis de Construire.
Close consultation with the local planning Architect also ensured that the barn maintained the required rural characteristics.
